My passion is to help people with different abilities to become as happy, healthy, and independent as possible.
I have been part of the disability community for most of my life, after the birth of my younger sister, Hannah, who has Down syndrome. Being a part of this community has provided me many beautiful opportunities such as: being the special needs coordinator at an inclusive summer camp, living as an assistant at a L'Arche community, working as a companion for a mobility impaired university student, volunteering with Acadia University's S.M.I.L.E. program, performing a disability audit for Acadia University's Professional Studies building, and organising a Special Olympics Swim meet. I also love working with children and have worked as a movement therapist at a private kindergarten in Germany. I believe that all people can benefit from personalized manual therapy. Whether you or your child have sensory processing differences, behavioural challenges, muscle tension, discomfort associated with mobility issues, massage and movement therapy can make a positive difference in your life. I draw on the strengths of various disciplines to provide effective personalized treatments. I have Bachelor of Kinesiology from Acadia University (specialising in movement therapy for individuals with special needs), a Massage Therapy Diploma, and am currently studying to become an Osteopath. In my personal life I am committed to creating a healthy, vibrant community and advocating for individuals with special needs. I also love being outside, hiking, canoeing, and sinking my toes into the rich Nova Scotian mud. |
My Mother and Sisters are also very involved in the disability community.
I, Amy, am on the left. Beside me is my Mother, Jill. She is a Speech and Language Pathologist who dedicates her practice to helping people with Down syndrome communicate better. Beside her, is my sister Hannah. She is an artist, who expresses herself through painting, dancing, and writing. On the far right is my younger sister Sarah. She is currently studying to become a Speech and Language Pathologist, aiming to work with children with special needs after graduation.
